The bomb shelters in Israel's southern town of Sdeot were transformed into vibrant works of art by a group of graffiti artists from Israel and abroad earlier this year. Curious about this town that had become the target of rocket attacks from Gaza in 2007, I was glad to have the opportunity to visit it with my photographer friend, Leora Cheshin, earlier this month.

Mr. Di Maggio in Tel Aviv
I discovered Mr. Di Maggio's artwork at the Inspiration Arts Festival and again in the Florentine district of Tel Aviv. Inspire tells me that he's here from Italy for a bit. I love what he's doing.

C215 in Tel Aviv
It always amazes me how Chris captures the essence of every place he visits. The black surface for this image is brilliant!

Word To Mother @ StolenSpace
While ambling through Brick Lane -- a street where East and West (with their opposing sensibilities) collide -- I came upon the StolenSpace Gallery and discovered the work of Word to Mother. Currently based in London, he creates clever -- somewhat biting -- images on salvaged pieces of wood. I loved every piece in this exhibit!
Miss Bugs @ Moniker Art Fair
One of my favorite stopovers when I travel back from Tel Aviv to NYC is London. This time I hit the city in the midst of several art fairs and events. The one event I did check out was the preview to the Moniker Art Fair. Though it's difficult to look at, appreciate and document artwork in such settings, it was worthwhile. Most of the work was strong and interesting. The space was packed and folks seemed to be buying art. I noticed red dots next to pieces by Swoon and Elbow Toe when I first entered. I much prefer the streets, but I understand the need/value to the commercial end of this all.

Cool Cartoon Image Created for Airbrush
The first step is to get the picture below. I do it with the work carried out in accordance with gray media.
Here is the completed initial image.
The next step is to begin to add some color. I do so first by using golden yellow on the medallion. You can also see that I have done work early line inscription, also in medium gray.
Here you can see that I've also finished off the rest of the body using golden yellow, light brown and flamingo pink.
The background is next. Using brite blue I add some linear texture around the image as well as the lettering.
The lettering is finished off by adding some flame work inside of it using brite red, fluorescent orange and golden yellow.
Here's the finished shirt. Notice the flames around the body as well to tie it into the lettering. Sweet.
