As I was in Chelsea, I checked out the currrent exhibit at Jonathan LeVine. Despite my strong prejudice against this type of pop surrealism, I was somewhat intrigued by Erik Mark Sandberg's eerie portraits that -- according to the press release -- focus "on the relationship between projected idealized archetypes and their unattainable emulation." Now -- that I can dig!

Stuck on the Williamsburg Bridge
I was amazed by how many stickers -- from contemporary classics like these to weathered ancient ones -- we came upon while crossing the Williamsburg Bridge yesterday.

Tara and I got some great views of tags, bombs, throw-ups and pieces yesterday -- as we walked over the Williamsburg Bridge. But we vowed never to do it again in such frigid weather!

5Pointz, LIC
I hadn't been to 5Pointz since the early fall. But as I was in the neighborhood yesterday, I stopped by. The place is as brilliant and vibrant as ever -- even in the dead of winter. Among the few new pieces that have made its way there since the fall is this intriguing character.

Joan Mitchell/James Schuyler in PAINTERS and POETS
My two greatest passions -- poetry and art -- merge in this exhibit at Tibor de Nagy. I found out about it by chance as I glanced through the ADAA Calendar in Friday's NYT's Fine Arts section earlier in the day. As I was in the neighborhood, I stopped by. 'glad I did, as there's much of value here from an aesthetic perspective as well as a historical/cultural/literary one.
